Boric acid

Description

Boric acid

Boric acid is a weak mineral acid with the formula H3Bo3, also known as hydrogen borate or orthoboric acid. This compound is found in nature as the mineral sassolite and is found around volcanoes and hot springs as a white or yellow solid.
This acid is often used as a disinfectant, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber or precursor to other chemicals. This compound is present in the form of colorless crystals or white powder and is also soluble in water.
Applications of boric acid in industry:
1- It is used in the manufacture of fiberglass fabric to strengthen the plastics used in the field of industrial plumbing, boat building and computer circuits.
2- As a buffering agent and PH regulator, it is in the field of controlling the acidity of the pool.
3- It is used as an insecticide to control beetles, termites, ants, fleas, etc.
4- It is used in salting, disinfecting and improving the skin of cows and is also used to care for the skin of calves and sheep. This acid is able to control and reduce the growth of bacteria, so it also helps to repel insects and microorganisms in the leather industry.
Other applications:
The main application of boric acid is in the ceramic tile industry and the production of refractory materials. In the jewelry industry, it is often used together with ethanol to reduce oxidation of metal surfaces and prevent the oxidation of oxides on them. This weak acid is also used in the production of flat glass and LCD displays.
Non-industrial boric is also used in the medical world and is often used due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. This acid is used to prepare wound dressings, eye wash (very dilute), skin, fungal, bacterial, acne and ear infections.
