Acacia is derived from the Greek language and is also known as scented Thor or Acacia Senegal. Acacia includes several species of trees and shrubs that belong to the subgroup of beans. In addition, due to the high production of pollen and its potential allergenicity, they are considered as one of the important factors for causing respiratory allergies (seasonal allergies or asthma).
This plant, which is called gum Arabic, has medicinal properties and is tree is from 5 meters to 15 meters high and has branches full of thorns that are 5 to 7 centimeters. the branches of this plant are scratched due to insect bites or due to wind and collision of stems with each other, and a substance called acacia gum or Arabic gum is released. The best type of acacia gum is in the form of small round or angled drops in white to yellowish color, the other type is light brown or red, which is not popular in trade. Their leaves and gums are usually rich in tannins, which have historically had medicinal and preservative uses.
Chemical compounds:
Acacia gum contains natural sugars such as dramenose, arabinose and galactose, it also contains glucuronic acid and methoxy glucuronic acid. In Arabic gum, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium is relatively high. Gum Arabic is soluble in water and glycerin but insoluble in alcohol.
Uses:
It is used in a variety of industries, for example in the pharmaceutical industry as a lint, in the culinary industry to help the body and tissues, and in the processing of food, as well as color stabilization. Due to its adhesion, it is also used in the production of postage stamps and cigarettes, as well as in the production of chewing gum, candy and wax.
There was also a type of gum called Iranian gum or resin, which is taken from the almond tree and is known as zedu gum.
Medicinal properties:
These properties include relieving bloody diarrhea and inflammation of the mouth, relieving cough, relieving burns and nipple sores, strengthening the stomach and intestines, stopping bleeding, soothing, nauseating, white vaginal discharge, relieving anal protrusion, corner sores and swelling and soreness.
Arabic gum or acacia gum has been used in traditional medicine and daily among people since ancient items. The Egyptians used Arabic gum as a glue and the main base of pain relievers, and Arab physicians also used it to treat various diseases with the help of this plant, and it fact, for this reason, they used Arabic gum.
